Flexeraが発表したレポート「2021 State of Cloud Report」によれば、調査対象となったほぼすべてのエンタープライズ企業のクラウド戦略でマルチクラウドを採用している一方で、費用のコントロールに苦労している。また、Microsoft Azureは、引き続きAmazon Web Services（AWS）との普及率のギャップを縮めた。
レポートでは、クラウド導入に関するさまざまな要素や、この数年間のコンテナ、セキュリティ、最適化をめぐるトレンドに焦点を当てている。
Flexeraのレポートでは、これまでと同様に、AWS、Microsoft Azure、Google Cloudがトップ3のパブリッククラウドプロバイダーだとされている。そして、マルチクラウドの導入はAWSとMicrosoft Azureの2社での競争になっていることがあらためてうかがえる。Google Cloudも多くのワークロードを抱えており、重要なプロバイダーの1つに位置づけられている。
各パブリックプロバイダーについて、回答者はそのクラウドでアプリケーションを稼働させているか、そのクラウドを試しているか、利用する計画の有無などを明らかにした。多くの回答者は複数のクラウドを利用しているという。調査対象のうち、50％がAWSで「多くのワークロードを実行している」と答えており、同様に41％がAzureで多くのワークロードを実行していた。Google Cloudで多くのワークロードを実行している企業は22％だった。
ただし、調査対象企業の間では、どのクラウドプロバイダーでもワークロードが増えていた。Oracle CloudとGoogle Cloudの成長が加速している点にも注目すべきだろう。
調査対象となったエンタープライズ企業の92％がマルチクラウド戦略を採用しており、80％がハイブリッドクラウドのアプローチを取っている。またFlexeraは、49％でクラウドによってワークロードがサイロ化されており、45％でデータがクラウド間で統合されていると述べている。
